Lake Bell has joined the cast of Mark Wahlberg’s HBO comedy How To Make It In America, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The actress, who guest-starred in the pilot, has been cast as a regular in the series, which focuses on the attempts of twentysomethings Ben (Bryan Greenberg) and Cam (Victor Rasuk) to hustle their way through New York in pursuit of the American dream.

Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Entourage’s Rob Weiss will produce the project, which has been scripted by Ian Edelman.

Singer Eyes Revenge on Mark Wahlberg

Back on March 6 it was announced Mark Wahlberg was attached to a new film called Prisoners from first-time writer Aaron Guzikowski. The story centers on a Boston man who turns vigilante after his daughter and her best friend are kidnapped.

At the time no director was attached and I said it sounded a lot like Wahlberg’s film Max Payne and a couple of commenters referenced Taken, the recent box-office success starring Liam Neeson. I didn’t necessarily think the film sounded all that interesting since we have had so many films of its ilk recently, but apparently the script is something Hollywood is hounding and has been compared to The Silence of the Lambs and Seven and over the weekend Entertainment Weekly dropped word that Bryan Singer (Superman Returns) may be eying the film as his next feature. Mark Wahlberg, trying to do right

Pride of Dot Mark Wahlberg will be on Extra tonight, talking candidly about his rise to fame and some of his more foolish, youthful choices.

“I made a lot of bad mistakes when I was younger,” Marky Mark admits, in a video on the show’s site. “When I was 17, I got sent to an adult prison and, you know, that was not where I wanted to be.” He remembers being in jail, watching his brother Donnie blow up on TV with New Kids on the Block. He’d passed on joining the massively popular boy band, “which I didn’t think was a cool thing to be involved with,” he admitted. (Read full story …)

Mark Wahlberg taking “Prisoners”

One of the hottest scripts in Hollywood right now is a dark thriller from a previously unknown writer who signed with a major talent agency only two weeks ago. The screenplay already has drawn the commitment of Mark Wahlberg and the interest of nearly every major studio in town.

Aaron Guzikowski, a Brooklyn native who flew out to Los Angeles just a few weeks ago and signed with Endeavor, is behind “Prisoners,” a project said to have echoes of “The Silence of the Lambs” and “Seven.”

The story concerns a Boston family man whose 6-year-old daughter and her best friend are kidnapped. He takes matters into his own hands by kidnapping the man he suspects responsible. (Read full story …)

Ferrell, Wahlberg join ‘The B Team’

Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired “The B Team,” a spec pitch package for an Adam McKay-directed action comedy that will team Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as cops, with Chris Henchy and McKay writing the script.

Pic will be a co-production between Gary Sanchez Productions and Mosaic. Sony has not set a release date on the film, but it is expected to go into production as quickly as the filmmakers can get it ready.

The comedy was pitched around town on Tuesday by Endeavor and CAA, and Sony co-president Matt Tolmach moved quickly. Tolmach was comfortable committing to a film without a finished script, because Columbia worked in exactly the same fashion on “Talladega Nights” and “Step Brothers,” both of which were set up with a pitch and the collaborative track record of McKay and Ferrell. Mark Wahlberg has made it clear that when he and partner Rhea Durham make their union official, they aren’t interested in a big Hollywood shindig.

In fact, he told People magazine that wherever they choose to tie the knot, family members will outnumber celebrities.

“If we do it here [in LA], it’ll probably just be us and the kids,” Wahlberg explained to reporters at the Callaway Golf Foundation Challenge. (Read full story …)

Mark Wahlberg: Get Off Jeremy Piven’s Back!

Mark Wahlberg says Jeremy Piven doesn’t deserve the scrutiny he’s been getting over his mercury-poisoning controversy.

Wahlberg, a producer of Entourage, has remained pretty much mum over the Piven ordeal, but earlier today he jumped to his defense. Wahlberg insisted the actor was not making up excuses to leave the Broadway revival of Speed-the-Plow when he announced that doctors had advised him to quit the show. (Read full story …)

Mark Wahlberg laments lack of female role models

Posted on November 24, 2008 • Filed under: News & Rumors 1 Comment

Actor Mark Wahlberg wants to move his family out of Hollywood – because he doesn’t want his daughter to grow up emulating her neighbours Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.

The Departed star insists his main priority is providing positive and educational surroundings for his young children – daughter Ella Rae, five, and sons Michael, two, and newborn Brendan Joseph.

And he admits that celebrity-obsessed Hollywood may not be the best place for kids to grow up.

He says: “We won’t stay there forever but it’s very difficult to raise normal kids in an environment like that. And I was thinking there’s no real role models for girls. (Read full story …)
