Mark Wahlberg On ‘Departed’ Sequel

Last year, Mark Wahlberg let slip to MTV News that the talent behind “The Departed” (namely director Martin Scorsese and screenwriter William Monahan, both Oscar winners for the film) were hard at work on both a sequel AND a prequel to the crime drama about corruption in the Boston police department.

“We may do another one, because it’s based on a Hong Kong film ['Infernal Affairs'], and there is a trilogy. So we may do a sequel with a new cast, and a prequel and bring back the rest of the guys,” he said. In fact, Wahlberg even talked of a substantial role for Scorsese favorite Robert De Niro.

So, Qui Bono? It’s now more than a year later. Where does the project stand? (Read full story …)

Caption: Mark Wahlberg and his long time girlfriend Rhea Durham spent a quiet romantic day together at The Grove in West Hollywood. The pare currently have two children together and are expecting their third, a boy, in September. The duo did a little shopping then took in a viewing of the new film “Get Smart.” As they headed for the exit it was clear that Mark was ready to call it a day has he looked quite tired and began to yawn. If he’s that worn out after a day of shopping and movie watching, it’s a wonder how he’s going to deal with three kids!

The ZOO Q&A: Mark Wahlberg!

Your new film, The Happening, has some grisly scenes. Did any of them freak you out?
Oh yeah! The scene with builders walking off the scaffolding and hitting the pavement; the one with the lions eating a guy’s arms and the truck scene, where the camera cuts outside the jeep and they floor it into a tree. I wasn’t expecting that! I read the script 100 times, but as I’m not in any of those scenes, I didn’t see the footage until I saw the movie. I had to look away every time! My girlfriend freaked out. But that’s M Night Shyamalan (the director) for you. He loves to scare people!

You were given two years for assault when you were a kid. What would the old Mark think of the new one?
He’d beat the shit out of him! He’d knock him down, take his wallet and tell him to go back to wherever he came from!
